.gnp is a type of image format in which the background of the image is gone, making the main image look like its poping out. to see an example, check my profile, scroll down a little until you see a wall paper of kid trunks and goten (the two kids puting thier hands together) put your mouse on it and you will see a .gnp pic. most of my pics used in profile are .gnp. except for the banner and the wall at the very bottom. sorry im not quite sure what they are myself too. thats why im asking for a little help on them.

.PNG files can host an image with that effect as well. I made the ones that were on my death note theme during Shishio's contest with GIMP image editor.

PNG are images that can have transparent backgrounds but their file size is usually really high.

hey blahbleeblah, how did you make those images, it "GIMP image editor" the name of the program you used?

...confusing topic merge/glitch... Anyway, yeah, GIMP seems to work best for me. You can magnify the image by 1600%, causing the ability to see the individual pixels at a fairly large size and giving you much more control and precision with whatever tool you use to render it.

Oddly enough, it doesn't take as long as you'd think. Usually an hour, two hours tops. It gives you the best quality of render, but 800% can work just as well. 1600% is usually used in intricate renders like anime hair or small overlapping things like chains.
