Ghost Hound ist der neueste Streich des "Ghost in the Shell"- Schöpfers Masamune Shirow. Die ersten Entwürfe für diesen Anime ersann Shirow bereits 1987, was gleichzeitig das Gründungsjahr der Produktionsfirma Production I.G darstellt. Das Animationsstudio realisierte bereits andere Werke von Shirow, wie etwa das auch in Deutschland ausgestrahlte "Ghost in the Shell- Stand Alone Complex".
