Uncertain Times (the english version of Ongewisse Tijd) tells the famly history of a Jewish family inthe Dutch colony of Suriname between 1774 and 1962.
The film is partly dramatized and recalls the arrival of the first two family members, two young orphans, back in 1774. The two brothers find their way in the Surinamese community as musicians. To their amazement there is a large Jewish population in Suriname, many of them plantation owners.
