Tuesday, November 27, 2007 As well known as baseball and apple pie for defining what is uniquely American, Ken Burns is regarded as a documentary filmmaker whose perspectives showcase our country and its history. Mr. Burns has been making films for more than 30 years. He first garnered attention with the Academy Award-nominated Brooklyn Bridge in 1981, and has since gone on to make acclaimed historical documentaries including The Civil War; Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson; Horatio’s Drive: America’s First Road Trip; Jazz; and Baseball. His most recent epic, The War—first hand accounts of how World War II impacted Americans in four towns—aired on PBS in September to rave reviews.
